Class Descriptions (Yoga Classes listed in order of difficulty):

HATHA YOGA

(75 minutes): "Ha" means sun, and "tha" means moon.  The word Yoga comes from the root word "yuj," which means union.  We can think of Hatha Yoga as the union of opposites, a method for cultivating and sustaining balance.  Of the eight limbs of yoga, Hatha is associated with Asana (poses) and Pranayama (mindful breathing).  Our 90-minute Hatha Yoga class begins with breathing exercises and ends with about 10 minutes of relaxation.  The balance of of our class time is spent practicing a variety of classic yoga poses and Sun Salutations.  This is a multi-level class suitable for newer students with some yoga background and/or more practiced yogis & yoginis.

SLOW FLOW YOGA  (75 minutes): This is the absolute BEST class for unwinding and releasing tension caused by stress--not only the tension we hold in our bodies, but the effects of stress on our minds!  Our Slow Flow Yoga class is a more restive, restorative version of our Hatha Yoga class, the perfect blend of push and yield.  We take our time at the beginning of class practicing Pranayama (mindful breathing) and gentle warm-up flows, and then some extra time toward the end of class down on the mat stretching and relaxing.   BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME.

RESTORATIVE FLOW YOGA (90 minutes):  Yoga is well known for helping people find true and lasting relief from chronic pain.  This very slow flowing yoga class focuses on yoga as therapy for addressing many types of pain, including muscle and diffuse pain, back and joint pain, and nerve pain (such as sciatica).  Sometimes pain is caused from the stresses of life that we hold in our bodies.  ALL yoga is good for helping us manage our stress, but our Restorative Flow Yoga is particularly beneficial.  This class is accessible to all fitness levels.

RESTORATIVE YIN YOGA (75 minutes):  A quiet meditative yoga practice designed for the whole self: body, mind, and spirit. This class will heal, nourish, rejuvenate, and challenge you. Poses are held longer and are often supported with bolsters and blankets allowing the muscles to release while focusing on the breath. Appropriate for all ages and levels of experience..
