Class Descriptions (Classes listed
in order of rigor):
HATHA YOGA (75 minutes): "Ha" means sun, and "tha" means
moon. The word Yoga comes from the root word "yuj," which means
union. We can think of Hatha Yoga as the union of opposites, a method for
cultivating and sustaining balance. Of the eight limbs of yoga, Hatha
is associated with Asana (poses) and Pranayama (mindful breathing).
Our 75-minute Hatha Yoga class begins with breathing exercises and ends
with about 10 minutes of relaxation. The balance of our class
time is spent practicing a variety of classic yoga poses and Sun
Salutations. This is a multi-level class suitable for newer students with
some yoga background and/or more practiced yogis.
KUNDALINI YOGA (75 minutes): Kundalini Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline for developing strength,
awareness and consciousness. Practitioners call Kundalini yoga, the yoga of awareness because they claim it expands sensory
sensitivity, enhances intuition, and nourishes the entire human system. Considered an advanced form of yoga and meditation,
its goal is to cultivate and harness the unlimited creative potential that exists within every human being. Kundalini yoga
is a pure form of Raja and Laya yoga. It creates both a neutral mind and a healthy nervous and glandular system. It
creates a calm mind and developed intuition. In Kundalini, we incorporate movement, breath, meditation and mantra in
specific patterns to facilitate the evolution of the individual in a directed way. The system of exercises and meditations
of Kundalini Yoga may provide extensive benefits for personal growth as well as improving mental and physical well-being.
Some studies have shown that the physical and physiological benefits cover a wide spectrum of ailments, including healing
treatments for memory problems,[asthma, diabetes, pain, stress-related diseases, rehabilitating addictive behavior, and
treating mental disorders. This is a multi-level class (suitable for beginners).
ACU-YOGA (90 minutes): Acu-Yoga is a combination modality designed by Tara Matthews, L.Ac. It begins
with a one-hour Kundalini Yoga Session based on repairing and tonifying specific body systems, increasing strength and
emotional balance, and allowing for more energetic flow in the body. This session is followed by a 30 minute Restorative
7-Needle Acupuncture Session based upon your specific pulse presentation. This is designed to bring balance and restoration
to all levels of the body system. The class is a complete healing session in a group format, allowing for an outstanding
full body tune-up for yogis of all kinds! By Reservation Only: (760) 249-6760 (class is limited to 10 people). Offered
once a month. Cost is $30 per person; Studio Passes may not be used for this special monthly class.
THERAPEUTIC HATHA YOGA (75 minutes): Originating in India thousands of years ago, Hatha Yoga is
the oldest documented form of physical exercise. Though the postures themselves have remained relatively unchanged down
through the ages, science continues to validate the unique therapeutic application of yoga for addressing the ills, injuries,
and stresses of our modern times. In our Therapeutic Hatha Yoga Class, classic postures are taught with emphasis on
energizing and rejuvenating the body, improving strength, flexibility, balance, and circulation.
CHAIR
YOGA (75 minutes): In Chair Yoga, classic
Hatha yoga postures are adapted to be practiced using a chair. Some of the poses are practiced while seated, but chair yoga
also includes standing and prone postures. Chair yoga is one of the most gentle, supported ways to
practice yoga and is therefore ideal for seniors, expectant mothers, those dealing with or recovering from certain types
of physical conditions, injury, and/or surgery. This is a gentle yet powerful way to improve strength, flexibility, and
balance in a nurturing and supportive environment.
