Thomas Boyles has been playing and performing music for over 40 years.  As a student at Wrightwood Elementary School—under the tutelage of Barbara Ballard (Van Houten) and later, Charles Lavalle—his first instrument was the trumpet. A few years later he also began playing bass guitar.  Right out of high school he joined up with brand new Wrightwood resident, John Burcher, and together they formed a band—a classic photo of which can be found at the top of Page 59 of Wrightwood And Big Pines  (by Pat Krig & Barbara Van Houten).  Thomas has continued down to present playing in the Mountain/High Desert area with John and other local musicians.

A 30-year veteran music teacher, Thomas has developed and honed his own enjoyable and highly effective technique of one-on-one music instruction.  He teaches reading, music theory, and improvisation—with a distinct emphasis on playing for personal satisfaction and creative expression.
